Dead Man Walking

By mikeygreenleaf

Inside of me, you will see
Exists a great divide
The vastness leaves me ample room
In which I choose to hide:
My broken dreams, my past regrets
The things I fear the most
Each time I choose to visit
Only angers all my ghosts
A foggy mist covers the ground
A sea of memories I have drowned
"Dead man walking" they all cry
"Just like us, you won't survive!"
This sad man walks alone you see
His heart weighed down with misery
Each day more difficult than the last
I struggle to escape my past
Fervent people under the steeple
Pray for me this night
The sins I contemplate I know
Would turn the devil white.

A hint of darkness woven deep and yet ends so gracefully. I love the imagery it delivers with a sinful delight. Write on, Mikey. Scholar
