Tucking Her Into Bed

By The Guardian Angel

"Life is a cruel mistress" He always said
Right before he would slowly tuck her into bed
"It's why seas and rivers run amuck with red.
One day your alive, the next your dead."

"But why is life so unfair?
Isn't there anyone like you, who cares?
Has anyone tried, or even dared
To be nice? It must be rare..."

The Angel just chuckled, his face a soft smile
"Well, I think it may just take a while
Before some has the nerve to rile,
or possibly have guts the length of a mile."

She lay there then, her expression a sad sigh
While he got ready to leave, and say his goodbye.
"Wait! Don't go yet!" She said in a small cry.
"The night is still young, the moon still high."

"You know that I can't, and that I must go.
Though you know, a night together would probably be like so.
We would end up talking like this, although
It could end up going much more differently you know?"

A small sly smile, appeared on her face.
"Do you think that will ever be the case?"
She said as her fingers stroked The Angel's cheek, soft as lace
"Come over here now... Tonight isn't a race..."
