Soldier and God

By DeafSoldier

As the soldier approached the Gates,
He was approached by God.
"Sir, I've committed sins that I'm not proud of,
I haven't been a good man,
I've done my share of killing,
And I may have lost hope."

God looked down on him,
As he confessed,
"Sir, I just hope you'll forgive,
My mistakes, my screw ups,
I want to see my comrades, my brothers,
Their life, to their country, they gave."

"So sir," he said,
"If you'll let me enter,
That'll be mighty fine.
If you don't. I'll understand."

He stood at attention,
As God stood up and smiled,
"You are my son,
You killed so that peace may be.
You're welcome in my home,
My home is yours, you are forgiven."

...it's a good poem, it just leaves me wondering: did God also welcome those whom the soldier killed?...

Maybe.. some enemy soldiers might have been forced to fight

And the ones who weren't forced? Who were fighting because they believed in their cause, as much as "the soldier" believed in his?
