Lost Love

By DeafSoldier

John met a girl named Mary,
John fell in love instantly,
John told her, "You'll be mine to marry."

John left to join the Army,
He said, "I'll be back, I'll be a man."
He left her feeling all bluey,
As he left to answer the call of duty.

Three months past, John came to Mary,
Took a knee and gave her a ring,
And said, "will you be mine to marry?"
She said, "yes," and he took her under his wing.

John recieved his orders,
Off to Afghanistan he has to go.
He promised his girl he'll be back,
As he departed for the combat zone.

As he went on patrol,
On alert with his gun,
A sniper popped from nowhere,
John's war ended as quick as it begun.

Like thousands before him,
He gave his life for his country,
Paid with his life, the cost of freedom.

As he lays in state,
Over his coffin, the flag is draped.
As Mary reads her letter, sinking,
To the ground, heart deflates.

With a tear going down her cheek,
"You're my love," she says, "I'll never forget."
As he's laid to rest, his war finally ends.

I had a really close friend go to the army last year. He came back a month ago. I never cried so hard as when he left. I was lucky that time. About the same time said friend left, about a month later, another friend of mine left. It's been 11 months. No word.... This was close to home for me.

Makes two of us.... I'm sorry you can't follow your dreams. But hey... there's a reason you're staying here. Just don't know what it is yet. You'll find out someday. Until then, keep ya chin up. You're tough, you can do it. *wink*

It seems that true heroes are always murdered and crooken one get the rewards... Oh, I digress. A poem to cherish.
