The Aroma

By daiglepoems

I met her on the boardwalk.
We took a quiet stroll
down a weathered wooden dock
and caught some rock 'n roll.

Stepped out to catch some air
and encountered the aroma.
It made my nostrils flare
and induced a state of coma.

The essence of a flounder
after two days in the sun.
A weak infield grounder
when you need to score a run.

A hungry tiger shark
when you're bleeding half to death.
A demon in the dark
with a baby on it's breath.

An angry god above me.
A lake of fire beneath.
A girl who says she loves me
that lies between her teeth.

An habitual narcotic
safe for use now and then.
A nightmare so psychotic
I'll never sleep again.

I awoke in ICU.
A tube in every whole in me.
Though I'd be good as new
I'd suffered horribly.

After  electro shock
I regained my self control.
Revisited the dock
where the aroma took it's toll.

Was it the girl or the fish?
Did they both play a role?
Now I won't touch either dish
with a ten foot pole.
