Bargains and Better Brands

By daiglepoems

T'was the highlight of my life.
The day she said she'd be my wife.
I loved working with my hands.
She loved bargains and better brands.

It was smooth sailing and the ocean
was a hotbed of emotion
that crashed upon the countless sands
of endless bargains and better brands.

But Father Time, he took his toll.
We each adopted our own roll.
Soon I couldn't understand
a bargain or a better brand.

She had her life.
I had mine.
Somehow I missed the warning sign.
Our love was shredded into strands.
Damn those bargains and better brands.

I'd come home drunk.
Late some nights.
That led to arguments and fights.
I got to where I couldn't stand
a bargain or a better brand.

Our love was beaten black and blue.
She packed her bags and said, "We're through".
I knew that I would never land
another bargain or better brand.

Eventually we parted ways
and life became a complex maze
of twisted tunnels and windswept sands
devoid of bargains and better brands.

Now I'm resigned to reminiscing
the softness of her touch.
The kissing
To feel her body in my hands.
I miss my bargains and better brands.
