silence

everyone says silence is golden,
but why is it that it can never be herd?
silence it unwelcome,
awkward,
no one yearns for it,
unless they are alone,
so that when it spills their secrets,
no one will be around to hear,
and even then,
there is the occasional person who puts their balled up fists to their ears,
to stop the flow of unshared secrets,
and screams at the top of their lungs to make it go away,
but even then silence is not golden,
more of a black shadow,
waiting to consume you when you get the chance.
