Dead Butterflies

By TakeMeAsIAm

No one can say she didn't try.
She struggled against his currents,
yet true to herself:
she dreamed
and she loved
and she held nothing back.
But she couldn't make him love her.

Some people can simply float on.
But the lonely hearts
sink straight to the bottom,
their stomachs filled with the weight
of dead butterflies.

Astoundingly good. Each line finely crafted, leading the reader through with no squirming room. Lightning bright ending!
