the portrait of a skull

By WatchTheWorldCollapse

 The portrait of a skull

deep black beneath the cracks, the backround and beyond
into the darkened shades before the canvas he is on
illuminated pale white like lights in fading dawn

The portrait of a skull

pearl teeth, the laughing skull is happy to be dead
it's smile sweet yet underneath a sad decaying head
With empty eyes that sought reprise it waits for you instead

The portrait of a skull

sitting pretty, the beauty within
the loney face without his skin
the only skull of all his kind
he sold his soul and lost his mind

The portrait of a skull

Sounds finished to me but the poet usually knows best - give it a day or two. I liked this a lot, thanks.
