What I Wouldn't Give

By alesana

For my little sisters, Tess (6) and Grace (4) Always in my heart! First a little background - I knew from the time I was young that I had been adopted. Around the age of ten I found out that my birth mother had gotten married and had a daughter of her own. Two years after, there was another. Slowly but surely, my birth mom and I developed a relationship, sending letters and care packages. Though the original agreement was to wait until I was 18, we realised by age 15 that I was ready to meet her and she was ready to meet me. So my adoptive mom and I traveled to New Orleans, where I was born, and there we spent the most emotional, wondrous weekend of my life. I thank God every day for the blessing that is my sisters.

You are the light in my darkness
The comfort in my loneliness
The most precious hearts I can be near
Though I couldn't be with you
But from the moment I finally met you
And we came face to face
I knew one thing I already knew
Only stronger than for sure
~
I would give my life for you
For you, my precious angels
I would run to the ends of the earth
I would jump in front of a bullet
And let myself be burned alive
From the moment I firstĀ
Was given your photograph
To know that somewhere, somehow
I have family of my own dear blood
~
Young and strong and beautiful
Just stringing your own webs
I will be there for you
Through any time of gloom
Your soft straw hair and innocent eyes
In shades of brown and blue
Remind me of the one thing
That I love most - You.

Great to find your lost family and quite a tribute. Save a little something for your adoptive parents too.
