She Won't Jump

By Myzeray

I was listening to the song in the car before I realized that I was crying. I have heard the song several times but never actually listened to the lyrics! I know that Chad Kroeger is married with kids but damn it! This is *MY* fantasy! LOL Enjoy ya'll!

The concert was jumpin’. Sold out as usual. I was nearly finished with my set for the night. Time to take it down a notch.

The crowd went wild as I strummed the opening riff. The roar grew even louder as I softly sang the opening lines.

This time, I wonder what it feels like,
To find the one in this life.
The one we all dream of.
But dreams just aren't enough.

The crowd was swaying to the music. I raked my eyes over the mostly female audience to rest on one woman pressed against the fence. She wasn’t moving. Her eyes were closed and I couldn’t tell if she was actually singing with me, or just mouthing the lyrics.

So I´ll be waiting for the real thing.
I'll know it by the feeling.
The moment when we´re meeting,
will play out like a scene straight off the silver screen.

She wasn’t a beauty and older than my usual crowd. Must have been around my age. Normally there were just teenagers up front with their tiny tops, screaming and reaching for me.

So I`ll be holdin’ my own breath,
Right up to the end.
Until that moment when,
I find the one that I'll spend forever with.

Here comes the best part! Maybe the woman with the short hair will jump with the rest of the crowd. She looks so sad. What could make her so sad?

`Cause nobody wants to be the last one there!
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares!
Someone to love with my life in their hands!
There`s gotta be somebody for me like that!

The pit jumps in time with the drums. My fingers keep playing my guitar, my lips keep moving. Her lips moving in time with mine. Why is she crying? Why isn’t she jumping?! This is a song of hope! Why would she not feel that?

`Cause nobody wants to do it on their own!
And everyone wants to know they’re not alone!
There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere!
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there!

I could see the tears track down her face as she is jostled by the crowd. She clings to the fence and now I know she’s not just mouthing. Her chest heaves as she screams the lyrics. I wonder what color her eyes are?

Tonight, out on the street out in the moonlight,
And dammit this feels too right.
It´s just like Déjà Vu
Me standin’ here with you.

I stare right at her but her eyes do not open. The tears just keep coming. They don’t even hit the ground because of the crowd around her.

So I´ll be holdin`my own breath
Could this be the end?
Is it that moment when
I find the one that I'll spend forever with?

Here comes the chorus again. Will she jump now? I hadn’t even noticed her during the concert. Had she been jumping before? Was it just this song?

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there!
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares!
Someone to love with my life in their hands!
There´s gotta be somebody for me like that!

I’m singing right at her now. I forget to make eye contact with the rest. The woman’s clutching the fence now. Her shoulders shaking, I can only imagine why. Is she alone?

`Cause nobody wants to do it on their own!
And everyone wants to know they´re not alone!
There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere!
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there!

The next portion I sing just for her. I slip off the stage to everyone’s delight and walk right up to her, playing my guitar, the cords trailing behind me. I stop just in front of her. She finally opens her eyes. They are blue.

You can´t give up!
Lookin´ for that diamond in the rough.
You never know but when it shows up,
Make sure you´re holdin` on.
‘Cause it could be the one, the one you´re waiting on.

We look right at each other. She’s very pretty, but her eyes are so sad…I strum the suspense chord and hold out my hand to her. She reaches through the fence, palm out. Her hair is cinnamon colored.

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there.
And everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There has gotta be somebody for me!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I forget to take up my guitar again. I lace my fingers through hers. Could she feel the same as me in this? The lonely feeling? The crowd is jumping around her again.

Nobody wants to do it on their own!
And everyone wants to know they´re not alone!
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?!
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there!

I could hear the desperation in her voice. She projects beautifully. She’s singing with me instead of at me. I could hear the harmony in her voice. I step closer. The girls around her are going wild but I pay them no mind.

Nobody wants to be the last one there!
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares!
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?!
There has gotta be somebody for me out there!

The song dies and once again I have to become the super rockstar, but not before I stroke her cheek and hand her a back stage pass from my back pocket. “Don’t lose hope,” I mouth. I’ll look forward to singing with her again and maybe I’ll find out a little something about this mystery girl who doesn’t jump to my song.
