The Letter

By Lethie

I read a letter today

It reopened old wounds

Splashing across my mind

Like a familiar painting

One puts away in the attic

I can remember the sight of him

His eye’s a soft brown

Seeing inside my hidden mind

Arms that where strong and bronzed from the sun

Always ready to protect me

I recall his taste

A sweet cinnamon

That tingled the tongue

A smooth sweet

That never stung

At night his smell comes to me

Wild woods never tamed

Warm like flame

A small light that flickers

In my memory

Eternal and comforting

His voice only come’s

In nightmares

The yelling

The secrets

The betrayal

Nothing happy about it

Yes, A letter came today

Bringing with it

Memories and old hope

I never answered it

There was nothing to say

He was dead since

Yesterday

A letter did come… today
