Observant--the Story of a Dried Lotus Fruit

By Henry Coldnight

What's that? A fly? A bumble bee?
Buzz, buzz, winks! A flower pixie!

And what's that in your hand?
So smooth and dark and
So fragile and empty;
A shower head,
A withered heart;
It may look tough--
but all dead on the inside.
So she says
                     with a sigh.

But mommy, mommy!
what is it, really?
Oh, let's see
It's a pixie's hollow,
For her to come from
fairy wonderland--

Ah, I see! So is it--
A vessel, a vehicle,
A transporter, a space shuttle?
Yes! A shuttle which transcends,
through time and space,
through danger and hardship,
through new discoveries
and inspirations,
                            just for us.

It's not a melancholy face,
that you are making now;
it's awe-struck--
The universe in your hands--
                                                  and the lotus blossomed.

    Pretty and fun. Lightness throughout...and then the end...so very profound. Delightful write.
