How long is forever?

By KuroiBara

Forever is a universal term
Forever is a hard word to understand
Everyone thinks they know what forever means
But it is such a hard word to contemplate.

Children learn the word at a young age
However, they never master it
They say, “We’ll be best friends forever!”
But, in a matter of days, weeks, months, or years,
They depart when they get into a fight
Or when they find someone else to be best friends with

When they become teenagers
They become older and wiser with withering of the years
But they still don’t know the meaning of the word “forever”
They say to each other, “I like you so much! When we get older and get married, we’ll be together forever!!!”
But, it only takes a while,
When a few months pass,
And a season fades,
Until they find somebody else,
And when that forever ends

When they become adults,
They become married and say their vows
They claim that they will be together forever
But, when someone is unfaithful
A bitter divorce happens to tear them apart
And with it, a family is split in two

Friends, family, lovers, spouses
Tell me something
When they first meant forever,
It was thought that something never ends
But now that I see it
It only takes one week, one season, or one year
Before something tears apart
Before something ends

I’m not arguing
I’m not complaining
I’m not pointing fingers
I’m merely asking an honest question
How long is forever?
Can somebody answer me?
How long is forever?
I really want to know
I really need to know
But, forever is a universal term, and hard to understand.
