Behind the Smile

By sueseagull

She wears the smile upon her face,
But you see the sadness in her eyes.
She lives her life, just fills a space,
But deep inside of her she cries.

She loved him so much she can't explain,
How and what he made her feel.
In her heart and in her soul
To her, no doubt this was real.

It started as friends, then it became more.
Hearts opened up, love as it bloomed.
She had never felt anything like this before.
Odds were against them, they knew they were doomed.

Now memory remains of the times they shared,
Laughter and love, smiles and then tears,
She relished his love, but inside was scared.
Took hold of her heart, removed all her fears.

Now all she has is the memory of him,
The smile on the outside, inside she cries.
She prays for the time they will grow dim.
Existing in life, as she wears her disguise.

I agree with elwilder, it is easy to relate to, and it's always nice to have a poem that you can relate to, because you know you're not alone

This was a well balanced, well metered piece with a sad message that speaks to a personal experience in a way that can be easily shared. Excellent! Ciao, T/S Scholar
