The Haunted Wood

By snakeskingrin

Cozily sharing a carriage ride
Through dark and lovely forest
Young lovers plan a picnic
Laughing happily in chorus

A spot emerges in the mist
Amid ancient stunted trees
They disembark and disengage
"Spread the blanket if you please"

Doomed history of this cursed place
The young lovers unaware
As spirits rise and choke the day
They share grapes without a care

Dimming light and chilling breeze
A precursor to their dread
They picnic in a slaughter grove
Solemnly witnessed by the dead

Gore soaked ground roiling up
To impede a quick retreat
The vengeful specters starving
Finally have something to eat
