Panic
By Any
I am walking home as always
In the darkness of the night
Enjoying the silence around me
And the little light of the windows
Falling down the street before me
When I see him at the end of the street
Panic.
I walk a bit faster
Telling myself
That there is no reason
To worry.
Then I see that he is going
In the same direction as me.
Panic.
I start hurrying
It can all be a coincidence
The street doesn't belong to me
It's free to everyone
But he starts hurrying, too.
Panic.
Running I try to get home
Coincidences happen
But not such!
I hear the steps coming closer.
Panic.
Hastening as fast as I can
I reach my house
Seeing him some meters away.
Panic.
I try to open the door
Cannot find the keys
Panic.
I look up
And see his mirror image in the glass.
Panic.
I see my keys in his hands.
Panic.
He says:
"Here,
I saw that you lost this one.
It's dangerous at night out here
You have to pay attention.
Have a nice evening."
Then he walks away.

I were waiting for you to turn around and give him some chop-sui, and a can of mace, probably a good thing you didn't, he was one of the good guys.

Ha! I noticed my reading sped up with each stanza. I could even here the crescendo of the orchestra suddenly cut off at the last "panic".
