Cutting Out My Heart

By Berry Fantastic

Draw the knife to my chest
Carefully carving myself to pieces
I’m cutting out my heart
Now there’s just a gaping
Hole and a bloody box
Hideous organ pulsating within
Hidden in darkness, closed the lid
Washed my hands
And picked the prettiest paper

Sorry if I spilled a drop of precious crimson wine

Taped shut, tied up
I sent it through the mail
I didn’t have the strength to see you face to face

I hope it got there safely
I hope you gave it a new home

I lay in blue rooms with cold fingers
You may have my heart
But you never sent a thank you letter
