Cinderella by Pumpkin

By Saschwann

Another day at the dead merchant's house
Awoken by screams and giggles and mean tempered shouts
Too much excitement from a pumpkin's point of view
But all I have to look forward to is getting chopped up in the pigs’ slough

The mail man arrives
But I'm too preoccupied with thoughts of pies
All too soon a mighty shout rips the air
Something about an invitation for all maidens fair

Nothing to do with a pumpkin such as me
I go about my day unworried, happy and free
Growing is the only job that I have to do
Becoming rich and savory to make a good stew

As the sun goes down the house heats up
Cinderella wants to go but the stepmother leaps up
Goading her daughters she's sure to cause stress
She has them fighting and yelling and ripping at her dress

The coach drives off, Cinderella not within
Crying and sobbing she's running towards my pumpkin pen
I listen to her tears falling to the ground
But I'm just a pumpkin, I can't help, can't make a sound

The air begins to twinkle and snap
All of a sudden there's a plump woman wearing a funny little cap
She's sitting with Cinderella's head in her arms
A grandmotherly woman with dimples and charms

Cinderella gets up, as does the lady
She starts to sing and dance around real crazy
She's a fairy godmother she tells all who can hear
And Cinderella's going to that ball don't you fear

She says a spell and points her wand at ME
I jumble and bounce and start growing
Now it's like I'm not a pumpkin at all
I'm white and hollow and very, VERY tall

I lose track of what is happening all around
I'm too worried about being so far off the ground
But soon some one is climbing inside of me
And I start rolling, rolling across the country

We come to the castle and Cinderella gets out
She runs up the stairway with an overwhelmed little shout
Now there's nothing to do but sit around and wait
So that's what I do until the clock strikes quite late

And then all of a sudden Cinderella comes running
Even sweating and out of breath she still looks stunning
She gets back inside me, people chasing after
But she doesn't seem too worried, she's bursting with laughter

The clock keeps tolling and then I start shrinking
I'm a pumpkin again or so I am thinking
But all the kings horses dash around the bend
And smash me to bits, and that's The end.
