My Greatest Gift

By Midnight Shadow

I hide within these walls,
Yet you take your sweet time...
Breaking it down piece by piece.
My heart...
Which I though to be sheltered for all times...
Is once again vulnerable.
What is the phrase I'm thinking of?
Perhaps I could rearrange the symbolism within it.
My heart may have won the battle,
Yet he is winning the war.
I don't want to fight anymore...
But all wounds heal to become scars,
Some more invisible than others.
They are constant reminders of past hurts,
Of lessons learned...
Perhaps even some battles lost.
Can time and hope heal these scars?
I look into your eyes and sigh...
"I should hope so," I whisper to myself.
For I shake my head in wonder,
As I realize it is not my heart that is lost.
Instead it is me...
My heart is only captivated,
Captured,
Under lock and key.
I smile at you...
It is a smile meant to be shy, perhaps ever sexy.
Yet it becomes one to dazzle millions, capture hearts, and answer prayers.
I hold out my fist,
A small treasure concealed within.
For as I have learned in my life so far,
If you never explore...you will always wonder.
So...
I give it to you...my trust in it's entirety.
I place in your hands a symbol of my faith,
My desires...
Even my wishes.
I give you the key to unlock my heart.
