NIGHTMARE stew

By icebat

Last night I concocted a horrible brew,
It was a hideously rotten nightmare stew.
All night long dream after dream I had,
This nightmare world made me very sad.

There was a bubbling boiling cauldron of fire,
I fell in and couldn’t get out of the brackish mire.
Then a shark came up and chomped on my arm,
I stabbed and stabbed but could do it no harm.

The smell was horrible and everything was grey,
I escaped but the shark was still attached to my dismay.
The dream shifted gears and I was all alone,
A sinking feeling filled my soul and I started to moan.

Because the horror had just started to begin,
I dreamed about you next, much to my chagrin.
We were standing together before they arrived,
When they left I was the only one that had survived.

You knew they were coming so you started to leave me,
Those bastards shot you in the back as you started to flee.
I cried and moaned but you never came back,
And then my whole world just faded to black.

I then awoke with a terrible start,
An empty sinking feeling still in my heart.
I looked over to my side but you were no longer there,
I realized then it doesn’t take sleep to live a nightmare.
