My Angel has Flown

By Soulfire

I came home like any other day
only to find my mom in the most horrible display

she was breathing like she was asleep
but her breath was really labored and deep

Her eyes were open and rolled back in her head
I called 911 and listened to what the operator said

Don't panic, I need your name and address
But I was already freaking out and could barely catch my breath

An ambulance came along with a fire truck
It was a huge display but I didn't give a fuck

I rushed to the emergency room as fast as I could
Though it really didn't matter because I could do no good

Two days of waiting, crying and praying
I felt so numb I couldn't hear what the doctor was saying

A cat scan and the results were back
"her brain is swelling" now the panic attack

Time for my family to choose
life support or lose

She'd made it known never to use life support
If she were meant to die there was nothing we could do to cut it short

So at 9:00 pm, Wednesday February 8th, 2006
We said good bye and pulled the switch

It didn't take long
for she was pretty much already gone

I'll never forget watching the monitor while her heartbeat faded
knowing that for the rest of my life I'll be jaded

I'm twenty-two, I should still have my mom
but God chose to take her and now she is gone

To add more pain and suffering to this matter
her husband couldn't take it, his heart shattered

he went home early the next day and took his own life
now two families are dealing with pain and strife

Dear God, please have mercy and forgive
If I thought you wouldn't, I couldn't live

This one is for you mom:
"I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living
My mommy you'll be"
