The Ones

By Beluriel

We are the Ones, we are the last,
We look on victories from our past,
We bide our time, hour by hour,
For we are ancient, wrought with power.

We are known, and all too well,
All know our domain is Hell,
We use our power, year by year,
To twist men's hearts with hate and fear.

We witnessed the birth of the Child of Light,
We screamed in protest, cried aloud,
We gathered our forces in the night,
And worked within its concealing shroud.

We sought ro create a Child of Dark,
To thwart the Light one at every turn,
Through his power the Earth will be barren and stark,
Throughout the world his fires will burn!

We forged the Dark One from grief and pain,
We chose a girl with despair in her eyes,
We gave him dominion over fire and rain,
Soon, his blazing fires will rise!

I'm a little lost with the last stanza. Is the Dark One male or female? None the less a riveting piece, truly something after my own heart. Bravo.

The girl in the last stanza was chosen to be the vessel of the Child of Dark. She will give birth to him.

I liked this but the change in the rhyming scheme threw me off after the second stanza... good write nontheless though.

That's because I haven't reconciled them seamlessly. They used to be two separate poems. Thanks for the comment.

I understand now... two seperate poems... fit together pretty well...
