American Dream

By Crysa

Your living in your American Dream
while I'm wandering through a nightmare.
The things I've seen would make you scream,
I wonder how I got here.

I was blinded by the illusion
that good always wins, and life is fair.
While sorting through the confusion
I somehow entered evil's lair.

I'm drowning in the mess I've created
as hate and maddness take their toll.
What unknown rules have I violated
to cause this lack of control?

I've tried so hard to break through,
these chains of knowledge and helplessness.
I keep trying to get back to you
and the blissful ignorance you seem to posess.

I'm trapped by the restraints of society,
it's the only connection I have with you,
I was cursed by the deities.
I suffer, the heavy hand of Truth.

Jealousy overwhelms me, sometimes
I wish I could be like you.
I'm envious of your' simple minds
that see only what you want to.

Yet, with knowledge, comes success.
So I watch as my sheild shatters
creating a mountainous mess
within my trembling heart.

In my hands my heart was poked
by flying shards of glass,
and flowing out came the hope
that could have saved the mask.

Brutal sights of things hate has reared
took that mask from me.
I've been confronted by the things I've feared.
I've been destroyed by the things I've seen.
