My Enemy

By Eladrim

In the shadows lining a massive round room,
It creeps, watching me as I stand still as stone
In the middle of this chamber which is my body.

I can't see it, I can't hear it,
But I can feel it,
I can feel it's desire to destroy me.

I glance around anxiously,
Fear is building inside.
Whispered insults echo through the air.

I tense as I turn round and round,
Desperately now trying to see
My enemy as it mocks me.

The fear turns to anger,
And my confusion to resolution.
This is the last time I just stand here.

Slowly at first I move towards the shadows
Alert and ready, my senses in tune.
I crouch along the wall and stare into the darkness.

As my eyse adjust I can barely see
A pair of red eyes on the other side
Staring right back at me.

I clench my fist and grit my teeth,
As I force myself to run
Fullspeed at this demon.

I halt in the middle of the room,
The eyes change, i've seen them before.
Something's not right here.

The beast steps into the light
And i'm unable to move at all.
It's using my greatest weakness against me.

My eyes locked on her I finally whisper,
"I love you!" as she retreats to the shadow,
And once again i'm standing right where I started.

I second Serenity's comment. This one's very major.
