Did I Ask?
By ShadowFlight
Did I ask you
in the cold light of early morning
in that moment just before the awakening sun
climbed above the mountains peak
when the shadows sat long and apprehensive
waiting to flee the lances and thundering hooves
of Dawn's charge into the new day
the saber-cut of bright light slashing
through the falling body of Night retreating
while we stood in that silence
before the Dawn and the breaking storm
the silence before the battle of reawakening
the ugly fight in combat of mundality
and the Noon sun's veil of lies hiding
the gray-drizzle mist of a Winter's afternoon
with the scars highlighted on your battle-weary face
warrior tired to tears and exhaustion
if you had known
instead of cold battlements and weight of armor
or the piercing agony of a spear run through your belly
for at least one moment
that softer touch, gentle
more than just fond embrace, but arms and bosom
into which you might melt for a moment
warm scented in peace, and know for a moment
Love?

Shadow this was lovely and tragic at the same time, its imagery was wonderful and the last three lines touched my heart ~kristy
