A Drop of Rain Fell
By ShadowFlight
A drop of rain fell
God how I want that torrent to come
drown it all out
wash everything away
leave me standing clean
or carry me away in the flood
emotion runs so hard to catch up with my mind
out of breath, cramped and always two or twenty paces behind
all of my strength and power
a few steps out of reach
and my heart never gets to where my mind wants it to be
blood flows from the shadows
where a girl once told me it didn't matter
offering hope with a smile hiding fangs
claws hidden in a soft touch
and for a moment I believed
emotion stumbles over my own stupidity
it isn't like I have to wonder
why my heart can't catch up to my head
and wonder if those wounds are nothing more
than skinned knees and elbows
knowing that the tears I cry
are much, much younger
than the man whose eyes are wet
something else I forgot to do
at the right time when I was young
now I have the grey skies of old age
moistened with the water of a child's tears
love and faith have walked away
hand in hand with trust
and a drop of rain fell
