the corporate men

By gracefullytorn

the corporate men are smiling
the children are crying
the earth is dying
the soldiers take their last drink
to numb the pain
before sacrificing themselves for an unknown cause
the bystanders watch the buildings fall
and shake their heads disappointedly
teenagers commit the act
for fear of dying untouched
and thousands caged
claw the bars and scream
the men take their women
and the women take their children
sit in basements and pray
there are people sleeping in the subways
and an orphan child digging his own grave
the corporate men look up from their papers
from a safe distance and smile
