Grade Crossing

By ShadowFlight

I like to see it crawling as it comes
snake-like glowing eyes raised rear'ed high
with even rhythm rumbles surly thrums
the first breath of it's approach merely sigh
wind and noise rises rushing ever near
the mournful wailing cry now gains the crest
the lonely warning calling never fear
no malice felt excitement in my breast
it gains the threshold with mighty clatter
the bells in sympathetic clanging welcome
the stillness-night is a moment shattered
its' great heart's song power and electric hum
it passes loud mighty rolling rumble
fading leaves me standing quiet happy, humbled
