Adieu

I've become very fragile and weak,
almost can't keep my legs straight,
pain does not let me eat or drink,
something must be done,
for this, the last battle, can’t be won.

You will feel sad, of course you will,
but don’t let grief blur your focus in this,
for on this day, more than the rest,
your love and friendship must stand the test...

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days,
and to precious moments,
that will linger, always.

And these fond memories,
are treasured deep into your heart,
to bring us always close to those,
from whom we had to part...

We have had so many happy adventures,
you wouldn’t want me to suffer, so...
when the time comes, please, let me go....

Only, stay with me till the end,
and hold me firm, and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see your face...

I know in time, you will agree,
it is a kindness you do, to me,
although my tail its last has waved,
from agony and suffering I have been saved,
don’t grieve that it must be you,
who has to decide this thing to do,
because I can't help myself, 
and I trust it's the best possible choice,
I trust my life to you,
we’ve been so close these years,
don’t let your heart hold any tears...

So, though I give you my all,
the time has come when we must part...

All around you, you will see,
creatures that speak to you of me,
a tired horse, a hunted being,
a bird with a broken wing...
and somehow, I will be with you still,
and I shall know, although I’m gone,
the love I gave you lingers on...
