Morning Star

By Humanfly

I could live forever with my Sun
That I have known for an eternity
We have an empire cast in gold with walls
That could not break apart

My Sun could protect my sanity
We broke barriers, we built trust
None but I was given power to turn this City into dust

But I am covered in scars
And the scars they manifest
Lies and lust would seep through cracks and cloud the light we had

And in the shadows, I found you

I cannot live forever with you
Where your heart is, all I see is regret
But you shine brighter than the Sun
It pierced my eyes, it burned my skin

I think I’ve crossed paths with the Morning Star
Disguised as an angel on earth
The Devil sent from Heaven
Blasphemy! For a devil who gives all for love

We create a counterpoise effect
When our shooting stars collide
I’ve never seen such emanating brightness
From a devil who lives for the night

I don’t know you and I can’t see
Death surrounding our kiss
But I’ve never felt more alive
Until I’ve tasted your lips

Our trust was built on desert sand
We share secrets, I know your past
Still your future couldn’t contain the darkness
Of a devil who denies the dark

Tread softly, I’m trying to let you go
Cut cleanly, you will let me down
And still I walk towards you in deep, dark water even though
To love you is to drown

When I awake from this slumber
You’ll let me reclaim my Sun
But who could ever forget the light
Of the brightest Morning Star
