Artist of Sorrows

By Paradoxology

                   ~ Artist of Sorrows ~
“Behold, your house is left unto you desolate...”

     Cottage in this dreary meadow
Walls of stone that never echo
What’s your game with eyes so gentle?
Hide and seek or Hyde and Jekyll?

Bloodstained halls with haunted shadows
Artist’s cavern lit by candles
Spirit of a sad boy crying
Slashing scenes on canvas tainted
Waterfalls in scarlet painted
Never changing, always trying
Into nowhere always falling
From the painter's tortured paintbrush
Floods of colors always calling
Calling me away
Calling me to witness so much pain
And seal it in the deep concealed chasms of a frame...

My canvas damned to follow in the footprints of a child
Condemned to wander lawless in the bondage of the wild

Arms of love but severed from my reach
Held this cottage caught inside the breach
Made between two magnets out of touch
Faith and peace from sorrow, dust to dust

But still I sense I’m walking down the golden center aisle
In solace in the dimness of a sparkling diamond temple
Where once she stood, my princess in a spotless linen veil
Her wedding gown illumined by a glowing sapphire crown
The glory of Shekinah shining down...

And then a mist ascended from a fracture in the floor
The veil was pulled aside, as the maiden pulled a sword

“Come now forward to the altar for the sacrifice of blood
Get thee down on bended knee for the beheading, then the blessing
For the dream of us together I must bring this desperate measure
For these eyes of your desire have disguised you as a liar”

So I held her hands and kissed her to accept this cup of horror
And I kneeled down before her as I bowed my head and whispered,
“Let my death and blood inspire your remembrance of forever
If my head and body severed is the penance you require”
