Boxing: Freedom from the Beast

By SilentHeart

Control your breathing
Sitting alone in the dark
Focus on healing
Your life’s falling apart

Wrap your hands
His words form a noose
Find your balance
You pray for a truce

Watch your footwork
It’s your fault once more
Stay alert
You’ve never felt so unsure

Fighting stance
Sunrise brings a new hell
Boxing dance
You cry as he yells

Jab and cross
He’s drunk on the floor
Left hook, squat
You run to the door

Low plank, high knees
His fist breaks bone
Pushups and burpees
He tells you you’re home

Speed bag, front kick
He apologizes once more
Motions become rhythmic
Your heart is torn

Heavy bags swing
He won’t stop ‘til you’re dead
Eyes on the ring
He says it’s all in your head

Sweat beads your face
He holds a knife to your neck
You WILL become great
You’ve become his regret

Child’s pose
He throws you aside
Breathing slows
There’s no place to hide

Releasing your pain
You cry out for help
Confidence gained
Agony felt

Escape from reality
He can’t hurt you here
Shed the fragility
You have nothing to fear

Push yourself
You won’t let him win
Escape this hell
No one knows where you’ve been

Become something more
You’ve escaped from his grasp
Your freedom is sure
This time it will last

Each day you gain strength
You will have your life back
You bend, you don’t break
You must keep on this track

It will all be worth it,
In time all pain mends,
I can’t forget,
But I’ll start again.

My life is mine
And I’ll keep it that way
This is my time
I’m free, I’m okay.
