Anthem of War

By DeafSoldier

In the mist of night
In the shroud of gas
Come theĀ hail of bulletsĀ
As thick as the pouring rain.

The black hollers of Death
The shrill shrieks of shells
The deafening claps of whiz-bangs
As they fly across the misty Hell.

The men don't flinch and cower
They stand blind in the face of Death
They stand deaf to the hoots
They stand poised to make the suicidal charge.

The ground shakes and the earth screams
The men yell, shriek, and holler
They spit in the face of Death
As they climb over and charge.

In the mist of night
As the mist of gas vanishes
The men run, survive, and die
They regroup in Heaven's light.
