Reaper

By Eisen

Hello Reaper, it’s me again
we haven’t spoke since yesteryear
and though this means that it’s the end,
I am not sad that you are here.

With clarity I remember our first acquaintance
Despite times that have passed since
Twice has the sky turned to grey
the seasons passed, the leaves decay

A room exists within my house
a memento of our mournful meet
empty cradle; unused sheets
Yet your work was not complete

Over time I thought she’d heal
Forget her puddled pool of blood
I didn’t think that you were near
but then I found her hanging here

They told me time could erase
all the times that we had met
but in my dreams I saw her face
so filled was I with regret

As I wandered through the snow
shedding things that gave me warmth
Slowly I began to know
You and I were soon to meet

Goodbye reaper, my dearest friend
We haven’t spoke since yesteryear,
And since this means that it’s the end,
I am so grateful you are here.
