First days in Stalingrad
By DeafSoldier
They crammed me into the train
Traveled miles, stuck in a boxcar with my comrades.
Through the little window, I saw the Volga
And in the middle, a city shrouded in smoke and flame.
They pulled me out, crammed me into the boat
"For Stalin," they said, "for the Motherland!"
I stood next to my brother
As the smoke of the city loomed over us.
I hear the roar of planes
I look up, the Stukas are diving towards us.
I hear the chatter of machine guns and the screams of men.
My brother lay on me, but I feel his blood.
I look at his body, holes in his tunic.
The Commissar dumps it over the boat, "we need space."
As we arrive, I feel a bloodlust
Revenge, for my dead brother.
I'm in line to get a rifle
The man in front of me got one.
"If you get a rifle, find a man with a clip. If you have a clip, get a
rifle!"
They gave me a clip instead of a rifle.
I run, dodging bullets and shells
Jumping from one crater to the next.
I found a rifle, I load it,
And then I spot the Fascists.
I take aim, at their head and hearts,
But as I look through the sights
I see, out of the corner of my eyes, a flash.
I quickly aim at it, then I see another.
I fall back, hole in my chest
I'm soaked with blood
I lay there, moaning.. Dying
I didn't get the Germans.

I agree. That is actually how the Red Army did things in Stalingrad in the beginning.
