Today is the Day

By Kristoff

It is time for me to cry

It is sad when my despair becomes predictable
When everything in life becomes despicable
This way of life is horrible
But I cannot seem to stop

Is it bad when I know who will hurt me today?
I know who will kill me in every way
They laugh at me, and spit on me an never hear me say
"I will wait, and wait, and wait for the day..."

Yet still they kick me and stab me and break my bones
I'm just wishing that they'd let me go home
Finally they leave me, and I manage a groan
"I will wait, and wait, and wait for the day..."

Tomorrow might be the day I'm waiting to explore
I've simply never felt this way before
I feel like I can fly, that I can soar
"I know, I know, I know that tomorrow's the day..."

In the dreary morning I pack my bag
I feel no regret, I don't feel sad
It feels like I'm following a trend, a fad
"I know, I know, I know that today is the day..."

They come to me for their daily profit
I feel as if today I can finally stop it
I pull out my knife and promptly drop it
"I thought, I thought, I thought today was the day..."

They pick up my knife and do me in
I realize I was simply waiting for my life to begin
And now after death my life has set in
"I knew, I knew, I knew that today was the day..."

Life is good here after my demise
No one kills and no one cries
Everyone loves and nobody lies
And always remember:

             Today is the day.

This is a great piece. I love how the person in this predicament has this hope that tomorrow things will change for the better. Great pen.
