A Chat With A Demon

Today I took a stroll, down by the lake
I saw there a demon, and lo, he spake

He said unto me "Sir, have you heard
Jesus is Satan and Satan's a lie?
Mohammed and Odin and Zeus and Thor
How many times have you seen them before?"

"How many times have you gone to pray
And realized that the voice in your head is just your conscience each day?
How many times has it come over you,
That perhaps all is dark and gray is the only real hue?"

"Take a second and think
Think of the birds and the bees," he said with a wink
"Have they a god? I think not,
I believe people have just forgot

"That these voices were only once conceived
By madmen who once believed
That by talking to an entity in the sky
That he could make all things pass smoothly by

"So, you see, if Jesus is Satan, and Satan is God,
Then all is one and the same," he smiled with a nod
"If I am you and you are me,
Then remember these facts three:

"If you hurt someone else, you only truly hurt yourself.
If you hurt yourself, it's bound to hurt another.
And lastly; Satan and God are insane metaphors for you and me."

"But, sir," I replied with a shiver
"If Satan is fake, from whom were you delivered???"

He looked at me and I looked at him, and only then did I realize:

     I was looking at the surface of the lake.
