A Chilling Cold….

By Regnhild

A Chilling Cold….

The cold grips and hold on tight,
Never to let the pain go, not to the light
The darkness of winter darkens the soul
Leaving the landscape forlorn and droll
Weakened bursts of life, fight to survive
The harshness, the bitterness, to stay alive
As the months grow long and drear
The bursts grow less and less clear
Till the weakened light is but a shimmering glow
In the abysses that now has overtaken the hearts undertow
Living without hope, without dreams
The Wind blows everything away it seems
A warmth is felt that shocks the system
The heart smiles with anticipation
Love blooms forth to fill the crevasses
With a pliable and yielding emotion
The heat begins, the sorrow ends
If only for a moment, for a season
Laughter is heard, joy is felt
The heart begins to renew from the hand it was dealt
Your touch infused with care
Your eyes begged my heart to share
Your whispered sighs against my throat
Your honeyed words about my wounds begin to coat
Then suddenly the season changes
The colors of the trees shift from green to red
The flowers fall, and grasses return to dead
Winds begin to sigh once again
The cold follows amongst the quiet din
Then the icy winds they blow
Through the once happy soul they go
Coating everything in diamond frost
All the warmth again has been lost
Making it harder to rebound
From the wintery grasps that now abounds
The wavering quaking soul
Again, it has been left alone and cold.
