Road to Nowhere

By alesana

A woman walks in solitude
No moonlight as her guide
She steps from stone to stone
No god is on her side.

Over streams she crosses
Numb to human fear
Not a single flit of movement
Nor any sound to hear

A child takes his mother’s hand
Laughing at the fair
The dark has not descended yet
But dark we have to share

We walk a road to nowhere
Our eyes they cannot see
Blood has drained our senses
Death will set us free

The earth below our scorching feet
Suffering hot as coal
The ice will quell but never melt
The fire of the soul

A silent morbid city-scape
Gray from dawn to dusk
One single cry is silenced
Lost in deathly lust

We walk a road to nowhere
Our bodies ceased to be
We travel reminiscent
Ever so carefully

We walk a road to nowhere
A lane that has no end
Crawling ‘round the corners
Hoping Death is ‘round the bend
