Blood Moon

By Midnight Seduction

Fleeing into the twilight
Running through the open fields
Nothing around for miles to see
She must find shelter to hide
Her very life is on the line
Hairs stand on end
Chills slither down her spine
Skin covered in goose flesh
Her departure has been discovered
He knows that she is missing
He will not let her go
The last beams of sun are gone
Hidden away until the dawn
Alone in the midnight hour
Guided by the pale glow of the blood moon
Lungs are burning
The air is like fire
Legs are shaking
Barely supporting her
But she can't stop
She refuses to face him
Won't build a life with him
Will not lose her free will
She can sense him approaching in the distance
The gap between them is quickly closing
There is no escape
He will always find her
She lays a dagger in her hands
Mesmerized by the sleek shape
The blade glistens in the moonlight
It finds its way to the soft flesh of her neck
A welcoming sting of pain
Blood splashes onto the blade
Spills over until the last glimmer of silver is stained
Shades of red cover the ground that surrounds her
Warm sensations slip through her body
Relief washes over her
Calmness sets in
She is ready to move on
To leave this life for a new one
She sees him
He has found her
But he is too late
There is nothing he can do
The world around her begins to blur
Surroundings disappear
A cloudy haze creeps into her eyes
The ground rushes up to meet her
She feels comfort in the land
Nature opened its arms to embrace her
Lying on her back
She stares up at the sky
Stars dance wildly beckoning her to join them
The blood moon fills her field of vission
The last sight she sees
A slight smile spreads across her lips
Her eyes close
