the short & bittersweet collection

By RhymeBound

(I. to XVI., missing the illfated XI)

I.
what is endless can't be ended.
what is broken can't be mended.
what is lost can't be regained.
and what's set free can't be restrained.

II.
if asked my heartache to relate,
my woe i clad in words absurd:
i'm but a fish that cruel fate
had fall in love with sweet a bird.

III.
love you i forever shall.
unrequited til i die
and that day i will recall
hope is just a sweet white lie...

IV.
i have fallen from her grace,
chained has been my heart and hand.
nevermore i'll leave this place,
i shall die here, where i stand.

V.
from on high i've fallen hard
and every night i lose to thee
of my broken soul a shard
until there's nothing left of me.

VI.
her eyes the moon, her breath the sky,
her thoughts the swallows flying by.
her lips the land, her laughter rain,
but nothing of her may remain...

VII.
my heart is made of finest tinders,
sweetest spirit fills my veins.
just a spark; it burns to cinders,
just a lump of coal remains.

VIII.
though but one word, a "no", was spoken
your silence changed from that before
as if it lay forever broken
and silence silent was no more...

IX.
yet there's solace in the dark
as i think of my last hope slain;
of how i've lost that brightest spark
and how it shan't be lit again

X.
i must reject for what i yearn
because i care so very much...
every bridge i walk i'll burn
and rend asunder all i touch...

XII.
onto my isle of solitude you`ve built a thousand bridges
when quiet rest nigh healed my heart you`ve ripped out all my stitches
what once was barely beating now bursts with a thunderous roar
and i, sails set for farther shores, remain as broken as before...

XIII.
the autumn queen drew red a streak
across my grazed but smiling cheek
and with a kiss of sweetest grief
cast to the winds me like a leaf...

XIV.
my hope's candle's flame has died,
for cut down like a blade of grass
at my feet lies pale my bride
and shattered lies my heart of glass.

XV.
and thus the journey starts anew.
before me naught but roads untravelled.
with every step away from you
my tangled gordian heart's unravelled.

XVI. (for Lolita)
love dripped like poison from her lips
and death like rain fell from her eyes
that where like keen two daggers' tips
that pierced two roiling ash grey skies
