Goddess

By Perkele

Standing dumbstruck and awed
when I first gazed down the depths
of that fiery cavern you've come to accept as home
I can only drool all over myself,
shoving stutters pass my teeth
inspired to possess, covet and
take for granted all that raw beauty

Apologies flow as if the fire hose
spewing would make a difference
cool the rising temperatures,
put this combustion to rest
if only i could stall and
stop the hurting for a minute
I'd pour this can full of gasoline,
and strike the short match
watch as flames spread over my face,
hear those howls of pain

But no, it will never be enough,
nothing I say could ever come close
I'm left with these words burning
a hole through my chest, every letter an ember
melting through skin, the smallest pile of ash
locked in this ribcage
rattling around like a ghost
lamenting what could have been

Your lava plume sends clouds
into the sky, covering all in black
the shadow of your twilight
conjuring up the glowing truth of you
a goddess waiting to be appeased,
a village stumbling around
blind before the flux of earth
rolls out to
disintegrate every bit to
nothing
