The Lotus

By Daryl Bracken

Hiding myself in the darkness
I wait curled in my protective shell
Waiting for the caress of the first touch of the light
Anticipating the warm caress of its touch, hungering for it, living for it
It arrives and I open to it warmth, my outer protective shell loosens
I unfurl the beautiful petals that make up the true me
Allowing for this moment in time, the innermost personal part of me
To be exposed to world, to bath in the warmth of life
Nothing can spoil this moment in time, nothing can compare to the joy
For under this light I am truly alive and even knowing it is fleeting
And time will take it form me for another night , I curl in my shell
Knowing I will always treasure that moment in time
Because it is that one moment in time the world can enjoy my true beauty
