Unwanted Child

By Daryl Bracken

I am eight
my mother cries
my father sits in Jail
They come

I see my mother crying
They drive away
I never see mother again
my new home

an old building
my room open dorm
My belongings locked away
no parents no love

people come and go
some find homes
some just run away
I stay

I hear them talk
If he don't leave soon
no one wants someone his age
Forever unwanted

I grow older
I come of age
for ten years unwanted
no longer a child

I know not love
Family just a word
I am alone
Still an unwanted child
