Sentinels

By dark_sister

And all our little, wicked children
came home for only a brief rest.
We held them close and danced the part,
but now they scatter to the wind.
Will you and I be the only ones left?
Will it just be the two of us sitting
under a banner of memory and enduring love?
For all our little ones have fled the nest,
and what shall we do without
a sad song to dote on?
