Chapter 14 Light Under the Shadow

By Henry Coldnight

Imprisoned
by herself,
Claire realized that
she had been foolish
ever since she picked up
the Sword.
And she was wiser
when she was ignorant;

Vengeance
won't bring happiness
nor will it bring back
what has been lost.

Thinking back to those
good "old" times
with Mr. Bear-
her punching bag,
her best friend,
her guardian-
she treated him good,
she treated him bad,
but he has never showed
one bit of unhappiness
on his kind face
ever since she first met him
in that toy shop
at the freezing night
when the reindeers
were flying accross the sky.
It wasn't snowing outside,
but she saw the snowflakes
in his heart, just as she.
At the beauty of Nature, she smiled,
she smiled at him.

And then the mist of fear cleared,
the chains of regrets melted,
and the circle of hatred dispelled.

She saw her again,
this time not in her bedroom,
but in the bedchamber of
Humanity.
The graceful angel,
half standing, half levitating,
powerfully motionless.

She had never heard her say a word,
nor did she need to.
Though they are at the heart of
darkness,
where she stood, lights were
radiating
bright as day-

Her eyes closed
with determination,
her arms folded
to embrace the heart,
her wings stretched long and wide.

Seeing her like this, with a relief,
Claire thought,
'It seems like she has found
her way back home, after all.'
