Chapter 9 To Kill a Mocking...Angel

By Henry Coldnight

They have come,
at last,
with their great wings
and shiny armors of
pure gold,
claiming they will cleanse
the darkness from
this land.

How elegantly
they greeted her with
their golden spears
around her body.

They promised to
release her
from the pain,
once they have finished
praying
and removing
her head
from the neck.

Holy were the Celestial Wings,
holy was her creed.

She stood there
without saying a word,
or moving a hair...

She got sand in her eyes,
her hair, her body, her clothes,
her wings, and her face
from the desert wind.

Staring into the space,
ignoring the presence
of the angels;

there was a voice,
speaking so loud that
she couldn't hear
what they were
yipping about--

There was a time,
when she was just like them;

there was the color of holy light;

there was a sound
of a swift sword slashing through
the wind...

and then her hair moved.

There's now blood
all over her body
and the blade
which had cut through
the golden armors...

The shock
were written all over
their faces.

She walked away,
for there's no more
turning back,
and their bodies slowly
collapsed to the ground.

She did not mind losing
her life, or her pride;
but she will not let them
take hers too,
that little girl who saved her life.
