You are fleeting
By saudade
You are fleeting, fragile.
Like a star that shatters into infinite particles
and dashes against the sky as it crashes,
showering the earth in raindrops akin to broken glass,
this is how long it will last. Think of a comet sailing
through the heavens. Or water dripping from a faucet.
Or the proverbial candle, whispering to the wind before
it flickers out. This is why the word “cherish” exists –
I will commit to memory the sight of your eyes holding
my gaze, the smell of your soapy-clean scent, the feel
of your fingers as they dance on my palms, the taste of
your tongue, the timbre of your voice as it tickles my ears.
If this is all that a moment will allow, then allow me
to make you what every moment should mean.
