The End

By Petra Creffield

The End The love I had for you is all now gone I killed it off with a silver shotgun It's guts lie drying out in the sun It is over and we are done. It simply got too painful to keep on caring My heart was broken and needed sparing From further rotten rips and tearing The need for burial had become all too glaring So I killed it dead Shot it in the head Between the eyes in the forehead And I left it as it bled I went to the funeral and threw some dirt Shed the final tears until it no longer hurt Then marked the occasion with white wine and Schubert Danced around the kitchen in my nightshirt So now it is done, we are totally through This heart will simply no longer desire you Or wish that you would finally love me too This freedom my dear, is long overdue.
